The wholesale discount offered by Openreach to broadband providers for its FTTP services has been extended for six months.
Telecoms infrastructure operator Openreach has confirmed it has extended the discount it offers to broadband providers for the use of its fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) product.
FTTP uses fibre-optic cables running all the way to the door to deliver high-speed internet, and Openreach’s extended discount applies to its 330/50 tier, which can offer download speeds of 300Mbps and upload speeds of 50Mbps.
The tier was introduced on October 1st last year to match the headline speeds of Openreach’s G.fast product, ISPReview.co.uk reports, and was soon offered to broadband suppliers at a significant discount.
This was originally intended to only apply for one year, but the infrastructure provider has now extended this until March 31st 2019.
It means that the FTTP Transition Rental Price paid by broadband suppliers will remain at £17 per month, instead of the standard price of £29.61 per month, while FTTP Data Rental Prices will stay at £25.39 per month instead of £38.
However, as this is the wholesale price broadband providers pay for access to the network, this may not directly reflect the price consumers pay for their internet service, as ISPReview.co.uk notes that not all providers have passed on these savings to their own customers.
